California olive prices up 60% from 2003 average
Smaller crop will mean another tough season for the challenged industry.

California olive growers will benefit from prices this year that are more than 60% higher than the 2003 average, but a smaller crop will mean another tough season for the challenged industry. This year's crop is estimated at 75,000 tons and the Olive Growers Council of California reached an agreement with the state's major table-olive processors that sets an average price this year of $700 a ton, compared with $435 per ton in 2003, reported The Fresno Bee.
